About the event
Dr. Spiegel, MD, MPH
Dr. Paul Spiegel is an internationally renowned expert in humanitarian emergencies and refugee crises. He holds an MD from the University of Toronto and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Spiegel is the Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health and a Professor in the Department of International Health at JHSPH.
Previously, he served as the Deputy Director and Chief of Public Health at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. His extensive experience includes roles as a Medical Epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Medical Coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières and Médecins du Monde in refugee emergencies. He has contributed over 130 peer-reviewed articles on humanitarian health and migration, and served as a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission for Migration and Health and the Lancet Commission on Syria.
